Who are we? For those not familiar with how the Small Groups Network began, the idea arose from a group of pastors. They had heard Bill Donahue (Willow Creek Assoc.) speaking at the Small Group Leadership conference (London) organized by The Navigators and sponsored by a wide variety of churches. Many pastors and ministry coordinators spoke of their interest in coming together to support one another in a network for small group ministry leaders. The first Small Groups Network was launched in Waterloo in 2000. A London Network was established a little later and a Toronto Network as well.Testimonials: "It has been a joy to experience the synergy that happens when our network prays and works as a team. A sense of unity and common purpose has been established among us and we are discovering that together we can do some pretty fantastic things. One exciting goal that's happening is to provide training and inspiration for our leaders and coaches on a regional level in Ontario. I thank God for the vision he's given the Navigators to develop and support the intentional gathering of local church leaders. God is blessing the dream!" Jeff Austen, Director of Small Groups & Adult Ministries Creekside Church, Waterloo Why? The Navigators want to help churches, small groups and their leaders to be: • Equipped to do the ministry God has called them to, • Effective and vital in their small group ministry, and • Expanding their small group ministry and vision within and beyond their church community. We believe this Network provides a vital service. The Navigators will serve as a partner with you to enable these things to occur in your church. Our primary focus is to meet together at Regional Network Forums. Each Regional Forum determines much of its own agenda. Occasionally a large group activity will enhance our small group experience. SGN churches have sponsored two leadership conferences (2003 and 2004). There is also an annual SGN Symposium bringing together all the Network participants from Ontario. Interested in joining a Regional Small Groups Network? We come together three times over the year for Regional Network Forums throughout Southern Ontario- Toronto, Waterloo, and London. meaningful interaction using focused topic discussions and case studies; sharing ideas, strategies and resources to become more effective as ministry leaders. To participate in a Forum a church must be a paid member. Your first Forum trial meeting is always free. There will be a one day symposium for ministry leaders and pastors in the spring that is open to anyone or church. View our website calendar for the next scheduled meeting in your area or contact Dennis Funk if you would like to join in. The Small Groups Network exists to encourage and enrich the small groups ministries within local congregations. Your participation is welcomed.
